Treatments With Braces
TREATMENTS
Orthodontic treatment with braces is a method used to correct dental crowding and malocclusion. Modern bracket systems provide aesthetic and functional benefits.

Orthodontic treatment with braces, also known as wire treatment, is a widely used and effective method to correct crowded teeth and malocclusion. During braces treatment, devices such as brackets, wires and bands are used together to move the teeth to their desired positions over time. The stages of braces treatment are as follows:
- Initial evaluation: The orthodontic treatment journey begins with the orthodontist examining the patient. During this examination, the orthodontist thoroughly evaluates the patient's teeth, jaws and facial structures. X-rays, photographs and mouth impressions are taken to determine the severity of orthodontic problems and to develop a customized treatment plan.
- Treatment planning: At the end of the evaluation, the orthodontist creates a treatment plan based on the patient's needs and treatment goals. This treatment plan outlines the treatment methods to be applied, the type of bracket to be used, the estimated treatment time and other orthodontic appliances that may be required.
- Place the brackets: Once the treatment plan has been decided, the orthodontist will place the brackets. During bracket placement, the tooth surface is cleaned and dried. Using special dental adhesives, the brackets are bonded to the front surface of each tooth. A flexible metal wire (archwire) is inserted into the brackets and secured using elastic or wire fasteners.
- Fitting appointments: During the treatment period, the patient visits the orthodontist at certain intervals and the braces are adjusted. Appointment intervals are usually between 4-6 weeks, but depending on the treatment method, the orthodontist may want to see the patient more or less often. At these appointments, the orthodontist changes the arch wires or makes other adjustments to guide tooth movements to achieve the treatment goals.
- Removal of braces: When the desired tooth alignment and bite relationship is achieved, the braces are removed. At this time, the brackets are carefully separated from the teeth and the remaining adhesive is removed from the tooth surface.
- Protection treatment: After the braces have been removed, preservation treatment is performed. This is called retention. Retention aligners are customized devices that prevent the teeth from returning to their former state. Depending on the needs of the patient, fixed or removable types can be used.
Orthodontic treatment with braces is a very effective method for achieving a straighter smile, correcting malocclusion, oral health and jaw function. Although the duration of treatment may vary depending on the severity of the disorder, treatment results that increase the patient's self-confidence and quality of life related to oral health are achieved.
